The Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (LUHC) committee has launched an inquiry to explore ways to improve the house buying and selling process. This initiative aims to identify and address the barriers that buyers and sellers encounter, enhancing the overall consumer experience.

In April, the LUHC committee held evidence sessions with various organizations and businesses, including Rightmove, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and the HomeOwners Alliance. These sessions provided valuable insights into the current challenges within the housing market. Clive Betts, Chair of the LUHC, stated, “We are keen to examine issues such as the time taken to complete a transaction and the difficulties in finding the right information. Additionally, our agenda will cover topics like the lack of transparency around conveyancing services, the payment of referral fees, and the weak regulation of estate agents.” The inquiry seeks to streamline the transaction process and ensure a more transparent and efficient system for all parties involved.
